Kayne West and Jay Z to release joint album

In news that is sure to wet the lips of hip hop lovers the world over, it has been announced that Kanye West and Jay Z will record a joint album which is to be named "Watch the Throne". The album is already in the works with recording already happening and five tracks laid down.

Kayne has come out of hiding recently after the infamous Taylor Swift incident sent him AWOL to Japan. Kanye West's new album, 'My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy', is out on November 22.

Daft Punk perform live with Phoenix -First time in three years - Watch the Video

I think i just soiled myself, Daft Punk came out of hibernation last night for the first time in three years. Daft Punk surprised the crowd at Madison Square gardens by joining the French indie group Phoenix on stage to perform their encore. A very lucky treat indeed. Hopefully this means they will be back soon with a world tour. Check out the Daft Punk and Phoenix live video above.

New Zealand Shapeshifter - The System is a Remix (2010)

A little behind on this as NZ DnB news only trickles across the ditch from time to time but in a big move for Shapeshifter, Hospital Records have picked them up for a special edition EP showcasing a few of their greatest songs remixed by the cream of the Hospital crop. This is an album not to be scoffed at and means big things for Shapeshifter on the world stage. This is none more apparent than the change of name to New Zealand Shapeshifter, no doubt to differentiate the NZ DnB group from the UK mega house superstars Shapeshifters.

I have yet to see this album available in local online stores but the release has some banger remixes, my favourites being from Logistics and Hospital's new poster boy Netsky, who is performing at Rhythm and Vines this year! This festival will be huge so make sure you tick that box this summer. If you need a taster of this guys genius check out his feature on the Shapeshiter release The System is a Remix. Magnetic Man - Magnetic Man (album) 2010

Magnetic Man is a huge collab including mega stars of the Dubstep world Skream, Benga and Artwork. Before you even hear the music the thought of all these guys producing together is enough to make you froth at the mouth.

They recently released their debut self-titled album Magnetic Man, last week in fact, to rave reviews with it reaching 5th on the UK music charts, 1st on the UK Dance Charts and 3rd on the Download charts. But these guys are also a huge live outfit performing live onstage via three computers each putting their own twist on their self produced titles and remixes.

The album is all round a nice moody album with some great further collabs with other artists. The singles so far have been their soulful numbers with lady crooners such as Katy B and Angela Hunte lending their talents to the cause as well John Legend featuring on the awesome tune Getting Nowhere.

RIP Charles Haddon - Ou Est Le Swimming Pool singer Commits Suicide

In extremely sad news word has emerged from the Pukkelpop music festival over the weekend that on Friday the lead singer of emerging Synth Pop group Ou Est Le Swimming Pool fell to his death backstage.

Charles Haddon jumped to his death on Friday after performing on stage with the band. Earlier in their performance Haddon had dived from the stage into the crowd, outraging them when a young girl had to be removed with serious leg and back injuries due to being landed on*. Ou Est Le Swimming Pool were due to play at Parklife in a months time.

Charles Haddon was 22 years old. Thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family.

Festival Season is Coming Australia and New Zealand

If the weather recently is anything to go by summer is on the way. Which means its time to start planning for the festival period which is just around the corner. But who the hells playing where, whens it all going down and how the heck do i get there you may ask?

Well, Over the next couple of weeks we will be showcasing many festivals coming up in Australia and New Zealand over the the summer period. Tickets are now on sale for a lot of these so hopefully this guide will help you to decide which festivals attend.

We will be looking at their line ups, showcasing new tunes from the artists, fuelling speculation and let you know a range of other essential festival details.

We will kick this off next week with Parklife and move through others such as Rhythm and Vines and Stereosonic. If you haven't heard of some of the bands that have been announced then this will be a good opportunity for you to have a listen and get excited.

Rhythm and Vines and Field Days Line up rumours and announcement tonight

So the rumours are spinning around like crazy at the moment with the release of the line ups to festivals the likes of Rhythm and Vines and Field Days looming. Names like Justice and Chromeo have been thrown around getting people giddy in anticipation. These rumours were sent into overdrive this morning when Future Music released the line up of the SummaDayze new years day festival with Justice and Chromeo both making the list as well as a bundle of other big names.

With the announcement of this line up i have to say i am rather excited for Rhythm and Vines and to add fire to the rumour mill have had a stab below at predicting a first announcement of acts. ShirtPants Remix We Speak No Americano

Yolanda Be Cool and DCUP's mega collaboration has gone gangbusters since it's release this year going viral on YouTube with over 12 million views. The unique sound seems to have captured the imagination of the masses with the song a constant presence on the world top 20 viral YouTube videos. To build on its success and offer producers the opportunity to put their own spin on the tune, record label Sweat it Out and Spank Records held a remix competition recently for the tune where a few tasty numbers came out.

While this tune has been absolutely smashed it was good to hear this wee Gem by Kiwi-born Sydney-based producer ShirtPant's taking his own unique spin on the Afro-beat tune.

Mt Eden Dubstep - The men behind it all

There has been a lot of hype around Mt Eden Dubstep over the last 6 to 8 months. Their tune Sierra Leone has reached well over 2 million hits on YouTube prompting many to question who and where these guys are from. For any Kiwi its hard to miss a name like Mt Eden Dubstep without thinking that their homegrown.

Mt Eden Dubstep is made up of Jesse and Harley who are now building a huge name for themselves around the world. These guys are definitely ones to watch in the near future, check out below the interview with Jesse on NZ's Juice TV and one of their bangers. Good to see another couple of Kiwi boys blowing up overseas.

June Catch Up

Geez its been a full on month, and with Telstra being a massive pain in the arse i haven't had time at work or any Internet at home to post anything. The World Cup has also been a minor distraction. Hopefully all will be sorted soon and we will be up and running properly again by the end of this week. In the mean time i thought i chuck up a few tasties that i have been loving over the past couple of weeks.

I have been eagerly anticipating this tune for a long time, i first heard this from a set Aeroplane performed that was posted on YouTube. Their latest Remix of Breakbot's big tune Baby I'm Yours. Sad to hear these guys are splitting, however do not despair, Vito will be moving forward with Aeroplane. All the best to Stephan in his future ventures.

Jaime XX - Mix for Colette

Jaime XX (Jamie Smith) is a super talented producer from London, you may think he's trying to piggy back on the success of one famous band at the moment with his last name. The truth is he is the backbone to the XX and the one responsible for their unique smooth sound.

If you haven't heard of the band The XX you may as well have been been living under a rock for the past year. These guys have blown up since the release of their debut album xx, with awesome tunes such as Islands, Crystalised and Basic Space.

Jaime XX remixes are highly unique ranging from Dubstep to Hip Hop. The mix below which he compiled for fashion boutique Colette is a range of tunes that most likely influence his style. The mix contains a range of dubstep, UK garage mixed with some London hip hop. This is definitely worth checking out.

Underworld Channelling the Drum & Bass world

Underworld are back and releasing a brand new album this year. The album details are yet to be confirmed but there has already been a surprise collaboration which has come about with the release of their first tune of the album.

Underworld have enlisted the services of Cardfiff Drum n Bass producer High Contrast to help produce the tune. Underworld will be back down under in a few weeks Headlining the We love Sounds festival tour in Auckland on the 4th June, Perth 6th June, Sydney 12th June, Melbourne 13th June and Adelaide on the 14th June. Sorry Canberra and Brisbane you don't make the cut unfortunately. More details can be found at the We Love Sounds website.

The new release is a new direction for the guys and it will be interesting to see how the live show incorporates this new direction. There aren't many new Check out their new site here and check them out at We Love Sounds.

Junior Boys Remix Fun

Junior Boys have been one of my favourite groups for a few years now. This dynamic duo hailing from Canada wip out tunes which have a super unique sound and awesome vocals. For these guys were a stand out at last years Parklife festival in Sydney with their live show sounding just as good if not better than the album.

Junior Boys have released 3 studio albums, the latest Begone Dull Care is a stand out and a must listen. These guys are no doubt working on a new studio release but to hold us over until then they have been working on a couple of remixes to keep us keen. Super Exciting News

Crystal Castles are back! and releasing a new single next week. After a couple of years off while touring the world, Crystal Castles have somehow found time to record a full length album which they are expecting to release later this year.

As a taster watch out for the new 12" single coming out next week called Doe Deer, featuring the Doe Deer single and three previously unreleased tracks.

Two Door Cinema Club

Hope everyone had a mega easter break and are all well rested. There's a few new tunes i came across just before the break but didn't have a chance to chuck them up before the holidays, so will chuck them up through the day.

The first few come from French label Kitsune's latest discovery Two Door Cinema Club. With their debut album 'Tourist History' these guys have been tearing up the blogs of recent and are looking to be a massive drawcard at festivals in the next year.

Coming out of Northern Ireland, Two Door Cinema was formed the group in 2007, made up three guys on guitars, a couple of synths and a drum machine. Below is a wee taster of what these guys have to offer, check out their other massive tunes such as I Can Talk, and What you Know. Holy Live Acts! Travis vs A-Trak

So it seems all the rage at the moment, not satisfied at being plugged as straight up and down producer/DJ's artists are now experimenting with a whole landscape of live act scenarios to add to their resumes.

The latest to come my attention is the culmination of old school pop/punk and turntabilist Hip Hop, with a Tenties twist. A -Trak, known by many as the child prodigy DMC champion, now turned hip hop/electro megastar, has team up with ex Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker to create a new take on A-Trak's show.

Also check out the Bloody Beetroots live show having teamed with their Death Crew 77, all donning spidey masks, who you can catch at this years Creamfields tour. Check out videos of these two live acts below.

Sao Paolo's finest: Database

Lucio Morais and Yuri Chix of Database are childhood friends, who in 2005 discovered their passion for music and mixing. As is common in uni towns they gradually grew a bit of a cult following progressing to the dance floors of São Paulo’s legendary, now-extinct club, “AmpGalaxy.”

In 2007, the two friends decided to create something new—a dance-ey new live act with original beats. They called it “Database” and debuted at the Caravana da Coragem.

After a couple of albums and numerous remixes Database has become one of the biggest electronic names in Brazil, and the word is spreading. These guys are becoming a hit on the blogs, spreading their unique sound across the globe. Expect big things from these guys in the future.

Future Music Festival Recap

So I went Future Music festival in Sydney in the weekend, two words to describe it "holy people". One of the more surprising acts of the day for me was David Guetta, I wasn't at all a very big fan before going, but his stage presence and crowd pull was nothing like I had seen before. He played a 1hr set with the crowd knowing the words to every track, which he used to his advantage by letting them scream at full pitch when turning it down. He also chucked in a couple of cheeky edits like 'I'm David guetta Bitch" cut up from the Miami track.

So I thought I'd share tracks of his that he did with Kid Cudi. The Barletta remix is more up beat and grunty.

The second track that I'm throffing on at the moment is the new one from Crookers and Steed Lord- Transilvania- my Italian brothers need no introduction but steedlord are a 4 piece elctro/pop/rap group from Iceland. What drew my attention to them about three years ago was the graphic design that they incorperate into thier covers and EP"s check their myspace! Also the lead singer Is an absolute babe- these guys and girl are ones to watch, they have thier own record label, own clothing brand and are simply COOL. Introducing SteedLord

Underworld Announced as Headliners of We Love Sounds Australia

The British Electronica group Underworld have been announced today as the headliners of the already stellar line up that is We Love Sounds Australia. These guys have been around for ages, recording together since before most of you were born, 1980.

Currently made up of the duo Karl Hyde and Rick Smith these guys have released an staggering 7 studio albums and a load of remixes to go with it. The last time i saw these guys you could hardly fit a single person extra into the Boiler Room at BDO Auckland and they went off.

Check Out a couple of their big tunes, Born Slippy Nuxx which was made famous by the movie Trainspotting.

Jack Beats Essential Mix

This mix is a must, The duo Jack Beats consists of producers Plus One (Scratch Perverts) & Beni G from the UK who have been blowing up over the last couple of years and impressing with a slew of major remixes for some of the hottest artists around.

Plus One and Beni G have both been on the scene for a long time and have been really good friends throughout. Jack Beats came about one day when the two created a remix for Deekline and Wizard, which was in 2005, that came out as a Beni G & Plus One remix. From there they took on the name Jack Beats and have been releasing banger tunes on Herve's label Cheap Thrills.

End of Summer - Festival Guide

Hey Guys

So summer is winding down and all i can say is what a festival season, although the weather hasn't been great there have been some stellar performances over the last five month. Some personal favourties have been Aeroplane and Junior Boys at Parklife, a bit earlier Friendly Fires and Yuksek at Splendour in the Grass, Last week Busta Rhymes and Chase and Status shone at Good Vibes even though the sun did not, and Bag Raiders killing it at Harbourlife.

The good news is that while Summer is coming to an end the festival season is continuing. Big news has been announced recently with the line ups of We Love Sounds and Creamfields being released and many will be pleased to see that despite the many technical difficulties they experienced at Stereosonic those crazy Italians Crookers and on the way back to Aus. So if those of you in NZ are tempted get your tickets now and jump the ditch.

Holy Fires its Friendly Ghost!

I reported on the unfortunate pull out of Holy Ghost! from their tour of Australia, and the other unfortunate cancellation of the Friendly Fires from the Good Vibes line up, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. The two have teamed up for a release dubbed "Friendly Fires vs Holy Ghost", this will be released on 8 March as a download and on vinyl. The leda behind this is each has covered a version of the others songs. Friendly Fires have taken on Holy Ghost's "Hold On" and Holy Ghost have remixed the Friendly Fires tune "On Board".
